Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley has come clean.
In a candid and powerful message titled "Rock Bottom," which was posted to his official website on Friday night (May 16), the singer admits to battling alcoholism, which has ultimately left him hospitalized with severe liver and kidney damage.
"The reason I got so sick is from all the hard boozing I’ve been doing over the years. It finally caught up to me," Whibley stated.
The ex-husband of Avril Lavigne also revealed that he is one more drink away from possibly losing his life.
"i finally realized i can’t drink anymore. if i have one drink the doc’s say i will die," the 34-year-old singer said.
In addition to the statement, Whibley also published photos showing the punk rocker hooked up to IVs and looking frail.
He ended with a positive message for fans, saying that he is in the process of writing more music, and that he will be back on tour soon.

hey everyone, it’s deryck here. sorry i’ve been so m.i.a. lately, but i’ve been very sick in the hospital for a month and was pretty sick for a few weeks leading up to my trip to the hospital. the reason i got so sick is from all the hard boozing i’ve been doing over the years. it finally caught up to me. i was drinking hard every day. until one night. i was sitting at home, poured myself another drink around mid night and was about to watch a movie when all of a sudden i didn’t feel so good. i then collapsed to the ground unconscious. my fiancé got me rushed to the hospital where they put me into the intensive care unit. i was stuck with needles and i.v.’s all over. i was completely sedated the FIRST WEEK. when i finally woke up the next day i had no idea where i was. my mum and step dad were standing over me. i was so freaked out. my liver and kidney’s collapsed on me. needless to say it scared me straight. i finally realized i can’t drink anymore. if i have one drink the doc’s say i will die. i’m not preaching or anything but just always drink responsibly. i didn’t, and look where that got me. (i never thought i would ever say that! haha) anyway i have my passion and inspiration back for writing music. i already have a few song ideas for new songs. soon it will be time to start making an album and getting back to touring again. see you all sometime! there will be more posts again so say up to date friends.

So traurig, was aus der Band passiert ist Stevo weg, Dave ja sowieso und joah... Echt schade.

Wisst ihr was? Kommt mal wieder was? (Nachdem ich heute auf arbeit bei Bob wiedermal Underclass Hero gehört habe, bin ich wieder komplett auf die Band getrimmt) .
Die fehlen mir noch, nie gesehen und waren meiner Meinung nach immer weit aus besser als die blinker. Wäre grandios!!

Haben dieses Jahr ein paar Gigs gespielt, aber nicht viel. Davor seit 2013 nichts.

Waren 2011 auf dem Southside richtig mies, hat mich echt genervt dass ich wegen der Nostalgie nicht mit den andern zu Digitalism gegangen bin. Wer nur 1h Spielzeit hat und 10 Minuten lang "Hey which Metal Riffs shall we play" durchzieht, obwohl man stattdessen als Punkband 5 Songs spielen könnte, hat jegliche Sympathie bei mir verspielt.

wollte die eigtl. auch gucken aber hab die aufgrund der Chemical Brothers glaub ich verpasst. Würde ich mir heutzutage auch nur geben wenn nicht Gutes parallel läuft

Sänger hat Entzug gemacht, das war wohl echt übel bei ihm.
Die alten Sachen sind einfach stark und auch Screaming Bloody Murder war jetzt nicht soooo schlecht. Dazu ist Dave ja wieder an Board.
Bin mal gespannt, würde sie gerne mal live sehen eigentlich

Werden ein letztes Album rausbringen und eine letzte Tour spielen. Danach ist laut Aussage auf Facebook Schluss.

Sehr schade.. diesen Morgen noch Tickets für 2 Shows nächsten Monat gekauft. Die Abschiedstournee könnte dann auch noch schön werden.

Auf der einen Seite traurig, gerade wenn man bedenkt, wie jung die Crowds letztes Jahr waren und wie gut die Band war (das erste mal 2010 gesehen, mit Abstand die beste Performance von denen). Auf der anderen Seite, wahrscheinlich auch irgendwie gut auf einem High point aufzuhören.

Mir juckt es hart in den Fingern alles mitzunehmen, wenn es die Arbeit zulässt. Meine erste Show wo ich ohne Papa war.
Die Tour von 2010: 
Die Bands auf der Tour würde ich heute auch gerne noch mal nehmen.
Das war wirklich sehr geil. Habe sie damals in Neu-Isenburg auf der Tour gesehen.
Sehr sehr schade, sehr viele Erinnerungen an die Musik und wann ich sie gehört habe.
