Adam hat vorhin ein Insta Live gemacht und dort drei neue Songs vorgestellt. Außerdem gab es eine Führung durchs Studio. Das neue Album ist zu 75 % fertig.

Die neuen Songs klingen unfassbar gut. Wow!

Im Anschluss gab es (meinen Lieblingssong) In Reverse in einer wunderbaren Akustik-Version.

Die nächsten Tage kommt ein weiteres Insta Live.

Die Wartezeit wird mit dem Release eines Live-Albums überbrückt.

Ich tippe auf einen Release im Sommer mit anschließender US- und Europa-Tour.

Album ist angeblich bereits seit einiger Zeit fertig und wäre, wenn Corona nicht dazwischen gekommen wäre, schon im Oktober erschienen.

Der Auftritt bei Stephen Colbert morgen wird der letzte Promo-Auftritt zu LIVE DRUGS sein und der letzte vor der Ankündigung des neuen Albums.

Es geht wohl bald los… gerade wird ein Musikvideo gedreht.

Und los gehts… erster Teaser über Insta. Morgen wohl die erste Sibgle „I don’t live here anymore“

ALBUM ANNOUNCE: I DON'T LIVE HERE ANYMORE
The War On Drugs announce I Don’t Live Here Anymore, their first studio album in four years, out October 29th on Atlantic Records. Over the last 15 years, The War on Drugs have steadily emerged as one of this century’s great rock and roll synthesists, removing the gaps between the underground and the mainstream, between the obtuse and the anthemic, making records that wrestle a fractured past into a unified and engrossing present. The War On Drugs have never done that as well as they do with their fifth studio album, I Don’t Live Here Anymore, an uncommon rock album about one of our most common but daunting processes—resilience in the face of despair.

Just a month after The War On Drugs’ A Deeper Understanding received the 2018 Grammy for Best Rock Album, the core of Granduciel, bassist Dave Hartley, and multi-instrumentalist Anthony LaMarca retreated to upstate New York to jam and cut new demos, working outside of the predetermined roles each member plays in the live setting. These sessions proved highly productive, turning out early versions of some of the most immediate songs on I Don’t Live Here Anymore. It was the start of a dozen-plus session odyssey that spanned three years and seven studios, including some of rock’s greatest sonic workshops like Electric Lady in New York and Los Angeles’ Sound City. Band leader Adam Granduciel and trusted co-producer/engineer Shawn Everett spent untold hours peeling back every piece of these songs and rebuilding them.

One of the most memorable sessions occurred in May 2019 at Electro-Vox, in which the band’s entire line-up — rounded out by keyboardist Robbie Bennett, drummer Charlie Hall, and saxophonist Jon Natchez — convened to record the affecting album opener “Living Proof.” Typically, Granduciel assembles The War On Drugs records from reams of overdubs, like a kind of rock ‘n’ roll jigsaw puzzle. But for “Living Proof,” the track came together in real time, as the musicians drew on their chemistry as a live unit to summon some extemporaneous magic. The immediacy of the performance was appropriate for one of the most personal songs Granduciel has ever written.

The War On Drugs’ particular combination of intricacy and imagination animates the 10 songs of I Don’t Live Here Anymore, buttressing the feelings of Granduciel’s personal odyssey. It’s an expression of rock ’n’ roll’s power to translate our own experience into songs we can share and words that direct our gaze toward the possibility of what is to come.

Morgen wird’s was geben und zwar die neue Single: Teaser ist schon auf Instagram. Wohl das musikalische Gegenstück zu Living Proof. Sehr laut, die Gitarren knallen schon mal richtig gut.

Die neue Single heißt wie erwarten so wie das neue Album:

Total catchy, ein richtiger Banger. Ich höre es schon seit der Radiopremiere heute früh in Dauerschleife.

Mir gefällt es nach den ersten paar Malen leider noch so gar nicht..

Klingt irgendwie verhältnismäßig steril das Ganze, keine Ahnung was mir da querkommt. Aufs Album freu ich mich trotzdem.

Da kommt Großes auf uns zu !!

New York Times und Wall Street Journal schreiben von Album des Jahres.

Finde den Song bisher am Besten von den drei veröffentlichten.

Ich kann mich zwischen IDLHA und Change nicht entscheiden. Living Proof ist trotz starken Gitarren-Solo klar auf Platz 3.

Ich hab natürlich total die Fan-Brille auf, aber wenn das nicht das Album des Jahres ist, dann weiß ich auch nicht mehr.
Sehr Synthie-lastig, ein modernes 80er Jahre-Album, aus meiner Sicht musikalisch deutlich vielseitiger als es A deeper Understanding war.

Spontan würde ich sagen: das ist das Born in the USA-Album von The War on Drugs.

Erster Durchlauf, GEFÄLLT!

Harmonia‘s Dream ist ein Traum und der nicht immer dezente aber stilsichere (wie immer bei der Band) Einsatz von Synthis als neue Soundvariante erweitert den Spielraum. Bin angetan.

Warum man sich für Living Proof als Opener und erste Auskopplung entschieden hatte erschließt sich mir bei den ganzen tollen Songs auf dem Album aber nicht

Hahaha, wer beim Ed Sheeran Album vom Album der Woche redet hat eh verloren.

Ansonsten durchwegs gute Kritiken: Pitchfork 8,4/10, NME 5 von 5 Sterne, Lobeshymnen auch bei New York Times, Stereoogum etc.

Gut isses, aber weder Album des Jahres, noch das Beste der Gruppe - müsste dafür an Lost in a Dream vorbei

Ich find es auch sehr sehr sehr gut, hab es heute den ganzen Tag gehört und konnte kaum davon ablassen - Album des Jahres für mich wahrscheinlich schon, aber ich tu mir immer schwer mit solchen Kategorien, Vergleichen und Bewertungen und eigentlich ists mir auch total egal - wichtig ist was es mir bedeutet, was z.B. das piefige Pitchfork sagt ist mir völlig egal eigentlich.

Harmonia's Dream ist auf jeden Fall ein Instant-War-on-Drugs-Classic. Das Album an sich aber auf keinen Fall das Beste der Band für mich, Lost In The Dream wird glaub ich für immer unerreichbar für mich, wieviel ich damit verbinde und verbunden hab in dem Releasejahr damals und wie passend das damals auch meinen eigenen Nerv und meine aktuellen Stimmungen bei Release getroffen hat, da gibts glaub ich 3-4 weitere Alben überhaupt die mich in dem Ausmaß erwischt haben. Ich denke auch allgemein, Lost In The Dream wird immer das Meisterwerk bleiben, das jetzt treibt auf hohem Niveau all das in Perfektion weiter, aber die Essenz wird für immer da drinstecken. Trotzdem schon unfassbar, das vierte absolut überragende Album am Stück.
