Jimmy Eat World Title New Record
Jimmy Eat World's fifth full-length studio album is titled Chase This Light and likely will be released on Interscope by the middle of September, frontman Jim Adkins says.
The Mesa-based punk-pop outfit is putting the final touches on mixing for the record, its first since 2004's Futures.
"I feel really good about it," Adkins says. "It's our best record so far."
Butch Vig (Nirvana, Garbage) worked as executive producer, and Chris Testa, who won two Grammys in 2006 for his work with the Dixie Chicks on Taking the Long Way, helped engineer and produce Chase. John Fields (Switchfoot, Andrew WK) also co-produced tracks for the album, named after one of the 11 songs that made the cut.
The band has not decided on a lead single. Adkins says a small run of American clubs for a July tour is a possibility.
"We sort of expanded upon the things we already do," Adkins says of Chase. "So it makes sense as a Jimmy Eat World record. . . . The things we always tried to do in the past, the things that interested us and challenged us are just turned up a little more. It sounds like us, but it's different. And that's probably because everything's exaggerated."
Adkins says he expects a bonus track or two to be available on the digital release of the record.
